The problem:

The solution:
Thin, comfortable plastic whitening trays will be made from models of your teeth. At home you will place a whitening gel in each tray and wear the trays in your mouth for one to two hours per day. (Many patients wear their trays after dinner and before bed). A significant change in tooth colour is usually seen in just three to four days, and in seven to ten days treatment is usually complete. If after several months a "touch-up" is desired, it can be done at home in one or two applications using the same process.
Advantages:
Modern tooth whitening systems are highly effective, safe and have dramatic results. Many celebrities consistently whiten their teeth to improve their appearance.
Disadvantages:
Occasionally, patients may experience minor gum or tooth sensitivity when whitening. These symptoms usually subside quickly when whitening is discontinued.
Alternatives:
Accelerated whitening (done in our practice also) is another option for some patients. This process can result in whiter, brighter teeth in just a one-hour office visit.
Occasionally, teeth may be stained in a way that limits the effectiveness of tooth whitening. In these instances, porcelain laminates or crowns are an excellent alternative.
